Jason Recording

New music is right around the corner...

History

The founding members, Jason "Shimmy" Shimkoski (vox, guitar, bass) and Derek Ames (back vox, drums) were previous members of Northern Virginia favorite but horribly named, Kamara Cloud. After a verbal scuffle with the front man of the mighty KC, Jason and Derek left to pursue their jamz that were beginning to flow like butter from a fountain.

Rebel Outcry began in a 6x8 bedroom on the second floor of a suburban home in Stafford, Virginia in February of 2005. In this room, songs such as "When I Was Younger", "JC Type Thing" and "Ghetto Blasters" were conceived and squeezed out of Rock 'n Roll's battered vagina.

Sure, the tunes were kickin' but the boys needed a name. After contemplating a bunch of ideas spanning from "Red Box Cutter" to "Deadface", "Rebel Outcry" was decided upon as the label that felt just right for the music.

Wanting to play shows like lunatics addicted to masturbation, the boys realized they required a bass player to complete this onslaught of rockdom. This position was eventually filled by Jason's long time friend and jam buddy, Daniel Hicks after a long and ridiculous number of "almost" bass players.

From here, Rebel Outcry played a few shows but really... to be frank... they were awful! Daniel left the band but was quickly replaced by a coworker of Derek's, Robbie Williams (later of 3rd Grade Metal Scene). This was the lineup for a few short weeks but split when recording pressure from Jason (he's a control freak in the studio... yep) and a love of World of Warcraft swept over Derek's soul.

Jason and Derek decided to part ways ending the first lineup of Rebel Outcry.

The next few months were filled with depression, self-loathing, and binge drinking after Jason split with his longtime girlfriend, his car was totaled by a deer and his dog, Yoko "pooface" Ono, died on Christmas Eve. During this time however, due to his losses, he mustered up the gusto to record "Loud & Proud", Rebel Outcry's first full length CD. With the completion of this CD, Jason believed that he could close the Rebel Outcry book forever but not before he submitted a couple of the album's diddies to garageband.com.

About a month later, Jason was contact by a booking agent that was interested in having Rebel Outcry open for Battery, the Metallica tribute band, due to stellar reviews from garageband.com. Being a huge fan of Metallica, Jason proudly accepted the offer but faced a dilemma... he had no band to play with!

As luck would have it, Jason became friends with a fine chap, Ronald Whalen, at his work establishment. The two would discuss music in the kitchen at the 610 Ruby Tuesdays in Stafford, Virginia and Ron happened to be the front man (and still is) for the great band, Permanent Ascent. Jason told him of his situation and Ron gladly offered his guitar skills and Permanent Ascent's bass player, Alex. The drumming spot was filled by Adam, the son of a coworker. This little man was only 16 but was quick.

The new lineup practiced together a couple times with a set list Jason had never played himself but the gamble paid off. The gig ended with a great thunder of hand love. They had an encore gig the next week to the same great reaction but Jason decided to stop performing live for awhile to get his personal life back into shape.

For the next year, Jason recorded several songs and even released some for Rebel Outcry but his main focuses were personal health, family and friends. He eventually played an active roll in three bands With Haste (bass), Permanent Ascent (lead guitar), and 3rd Grade Metal Scene (bass, back vox) but always missed the music of Rebel Outcry.

In late 2007, Derek and Jason realigned their focus, retired from their other bands and decided to reincarnate Rebel Outcry. Currently they are recording CD #2.

Stay tuned for more developments.
